2006 At its Annual General Meeting, the Charity Law Association announced the results of the elections for membership of its Executive Committee and, at a meeting of that Committee immediately after the Annual General Meeting, Anne-Marie Piper was elected as the Chair of the Association.
Anne-Marie Piper takes over from Stephen Lloyd as Chair. Anne-Marie, a Partner at Farrer & Co, has been active in the CLA for many years as its Founder, former secretary and Executive Committee member.
Anne-Marie commented, "With membership of the CLA exceeding 900 and a Charities Bill going through Parliament it is a very exciting time for charity law and the Association and I'm really looking forward to leading the excellent Executive Committee. One of the first projects that we will be working on is the Public Benefit Conference planned for early next year, that will bring together a range of perspectives to contribute to the debate on the nature and extent of public required of charities."
The new Executive Committee members are:
Julian Blake – Bates Wells & Braithwaite
Mark Harvey – Help The Aged
Julian Smith – Farrer & Co
Re-elected were:
Jonathan Burchfield – Stone King
Francesca Quint – Radcliffe Chambers
Former CLA Chairman, Michael King said, "I am delighted that Anne-Marie Piper has been elected as the new CLA Chairman in succession to the excellent Stephen Lloyd under whose chairmanship the association has expanded to a very active membership of over 900. It is often said that if Anne-Marie had not started the CLA in 1993, it would have had to have been invented very shortly afterwards to cope with the plethora of primary & secondary legislation as well as the growth in guidance and codes of good practice emanating from the Charity Commission and other regulators concerned with the activities of the voluntary sector.”
