Charity & Community: Our expertise

Matters on which we have recently advised include:

  • Acting for the merger parties in the UK's largest charity merger, establishing the 'merger charity' and advising on the transfer of the operations of the merger partners.
  • Advising on the establishment and funding arrangements of a free-standing College and HEI within the University of London.
  • Acting in relation to the involvement of HM Attorney General in a children's charity's affairs and the decision of the charity to lease an historic art collection and part of the charity's property to a body established for museum and exhibition purposes.
  • Providing advice on the civil implications that can arise from investigations by regulators, including the Office of Fair Trading, the Health & Safety Executive and the Food Standards Agency.
  • Advising on the creation of innovative funding methods for grant-makers and lottery distributors.
  • Advising a range of educational institutions on their procedures for admissions and grievances, from the point of view of their specific compliance concerns as well as the rules of natural justice and human rights.
  • Advising on the exploitation and transfer of intellectual property, including the protection of a brand and the development of research for medical and commercial purposes.
  • Creating dual-qualified and other tax-efficient cross-border gifting structures.
  • Advising a production company on the charity law requirements when money is raised for charity during the course of a television programme.
