As soon as the Licensing Act 2003 was launched there was an outcry from supporters of live music that this legislation would stifle the talent of developing musicians as it would deter some venue owners, especially pub landlords, from staging music nights. The Musician’s Union, in particular, has been lobbying for change for many years.
Thanks to the perseverance of Tim Clement-Jones and his Private Members’ Bill, the Live Music Act 2012 finally received Royal Assent on 23 March 2012. This article considers the changes this Act will introduce.
