Private money funds raise £74 million

This was an unusual and complex deal funded entirely out of private money. The Farrer & Co corporate team were committed to a successful outcome and to this end worked diligently for our investment syndicate whilst facilitating the deal by working co-operatively with the investment vehicles’ advisers. A good result all round.

Group of private investors and entrepreneurs unite on MBO.

We advised a group of private investors, led by serial entrepreneur Neil Utley, in a deal to back the MBO team that bought the London brokerage and corporate finance house, KBC Peel Hunt. CEO Simon Hayes described the buyout as a rebirth for the company.

The deal reached with Dutch owners KBC Bank NV was particularly innovative as it involved a group of entrepreneurs and private individuals investing the £74 million necessary to complete the transaction. Adapting a model traditionally used by start-ups, experts from our Private Equity and Venture Capital teams helped the investors to complete the acquisition avoiding any significant debt finance. Just one example of the high profile equity work we are increasingly being asked to lead on.
