Farrer & Co has elected Anne-Marie Piper as its first ever female Senior Partner. The appointment comes into effect on 1 May 2017.
Piper will succeed Richard Parry who is set to retire. Parry has been Senior Partner since 2011, and with the firm for forty-two years.
Parry says: “It has been an enormous privilege to have been a part of Farrers for all these years and I am delighted that Anne-Marie has been elected as my successor. She has the vision, drive and commitment to represent the firm - and is an inspirational leader.”
Management Board member Simon Pring says “Anne-Marie is a true force who has carved out a tremendous career in the charities field. She is well known for it. What people are less aware of, however, is the contribution she makes every day to the firm. She works tirelessly, playing an active part in numerous partnership issues. For the last three years she has been a member of the firm’s Management Board and has been pivotal in shaping our business development strategy. She has also done a brilliant job in overseeing the introduction of a flexible working policy which is available to all within the firm.”
Piper says: “I feel incredibly honoured to take on the role of Senior Partner and am looking forward to being an ambassador for the firm. Every senior partner brings with them their own experience and skills to the role and there is no doubt that my experience as a working mother has shaped my views on the profession. We will all miss Richard’s quiet strength and stewardship. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to him and we all wish him the best in his retirement.”
Piper joined the charities team at Farrers as a partner in 2001. She is the founder of the Charity Law Association and writes and lectures on all aspects of charities.
