In-house lawyers

I have been working with Farrers for years. They are differentiated by their culture, one of continuity, consistency, professional excellence and integrity.

Robert Stemmons, General Counsel, Global Wealth Management EMEA, Citigroup

Whether you are an international business with a large legal team or a smaller organisation with a single in-house lawyer, there will be times when you require specialist advice or updates on new legislation and case law.

Drawing on expertise from across the firm, we regularly advise in-house counsel on a huge variety of legal and commercial issues. We work with a wide range of organisations including listed and private companies, charities, financial institutions, sports governing bodies, higher education institutions and national museums. We therefore have experience and detailed knowledge of a broad range of sectors which allows us to offer a tailored and cost-effective service.

Recent matters on which we have advised include:

  • The British Library’s partnership with brightsolid online technology, owned by DC Thomson, for the digitisation of up to 40 million pages of the Library’s newspaper archive;
  • a complex tax case involving applications against HMRC and ultimately High Court litigation against a professional advisor;
  • a number of company and business sales and acquisitions, the setting up of joint ventures and other projects and the making of investments, whether through private equity, venture capital or in the public market; and
  • the registration of manorial mineral interests over very extensive areas of land following a change in the law requiring such interests to be registered in order to be secure.

As well as providing specialist advice on particular issues we organise a wide range of seminars, round-table discussions and training sessions specifically for in-house counsel. These events allow you to keep up to date with the latest developments in legislation and case law. They also give you the opportunity to meet other in-house counsel from a number of different sectors while earning valuable CPD points.

We frequently provide lawyers to work in-house on secondment with clients. This allows us to gain a valuable first-hand insight into an organisation and its people and ensures that you receive the best advice. We would be happy to discuss this option with you further.
