The firm has masses of business acumen and knows the media and entertainment industry inside out.

Chambers & Partners, 2011

We understand the range of issues relevant to radio broadcasters and the challenges that lie ahead for the industry. That understanding, built over many years of practical experience, underpins the pragmatic and commercial advice you will receive from our dedicated radio team. Key activities include:

  • Acquisitions and disposals: Part of the team advising on the sale of Emap Radio to the Bauer group.
  • Joint Ventures: Advising a minority shareholder in the formation (and eventual break up) of the Channel 4-led joint venture.
  • Commercial: In particular, carriage agreements, advertising contracts and competition terms and conditions.
  • Regulatory: Advising on the terms of Ofcom Guidelines, ASA Guidelines and of the Broadcasting and Communications Acts.
  • Competition: Most recently advised on the impact of Arqiva’s undertakings to the Competition Commission.
  • Human Resources: High-level employment issues and presenter contracts.

The firm has come a long way since 1789, when it advised the then Duke of York on a libel matter resulting in the editor of The Times being jailed. Today, our lawyers deal with complex media cases on a daily basis, and are recognised throughout the industry as among the best in the business.
