Clients are full of praise for Paul Jones of Farrer & Co LLP, who "demonstrates thorough attention to detail with a commercial balance" and is "a great negotiator."
Paul enjoys a variety of general intellectual property work involving trade marks and copyright. Most recently, his experience largely involves commercial contract work, with large-scale and complex projects - in both the public and private sectors - being a particular focus.
These projects have required Paul to advise on, most notably, outsourcing contracts (relating, for example, to IT systems & infrastructure, facilities management, security, catering, printing and membership fulfilment), sponsorship initiatives and contracts (both in the cultural and sporting sectors), IT contracts of all descriptions ranging from standard software licensing through to bespoke IT system design and installation).
Paul regularly runs training sessions for clients on commercial contracts and contract law. Paul also advises on data licensing arrangements (acting for data aggregators in the exploitation of information services and products) and technology contracts.
Paul also provides the firm's public procurement expertise. He advises on The Public Contracts Regulations 2006 and has experience of advising on the implementation of various procurement procedures. He has also drafted and implemented Framework Agreements and Shared Services Agreements anticipating collaborative procurements.
Who we help
Paul specialises not only in commercial work of a rights-related nature - such as sponsorship contracts (acting for the likes of sports governing bodies, national museums and event organisers), publishing agreements (traditional, electronic and new media), data licensing arrangements (acting for data aggregators in the exploitation of information services and products), and film and television licensing, acquisition and development contracts (including film production, location hire and option agreements) - but also in the related fields of IT, advertising and event management. Paul advises independent schools on a number of matters, including parent contracts and consumer credit issues (linked to the payment of fees). Paul negotiated the terms of the latest ISBA model parent contract with the OFT and has advised schools extensively on it and their own parent contracts. Linked to this, Paul reportedly advises on deferred payment schemes for school fees and the consumer credit issues this can raise. Go to Schools
Paul advises institutions on public procurement issues and often linked to his work on the contract that is being procured. He specialises in drafting and negotiating contracts for complex, high-value projects, including collective purchases, shared service arrangements, outsourcing, sponsorship and digitisation activity. Paul recently advised three national museums on their joint purchase of security services, and last year completed work on the British Library's groundbreaking newspaper digitisation project.
