Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that in a few short hours, it was possible to get people that had never worked together before, to take down the barriers away completely and together climb and stand on the mountain... I will remember it forever and I hope you will too. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Heather Phillips, ChoirWithNoName
In May 2011 the Farrer & Co choir, along with choirs from other professional firms in London, joined forces with the homeless charity ChoirWithNoName to sing in a hugely successful fundraising concert "We're Still Standing". Over £10,000 was raised through ticket sales, t-shirt sales and donations and the money raised has gone a long way towards helping the charity with their ambition of setting up a new homeless choir in Birmingham.
On the night itself the massed choir sang a broad repertoire of classical and pop with some poignant messages and moving solos interspersed with catchy uplifting numbers and even a bit of freestyle dancing. A school Acapella group sent shivers down the spine with their beautiful rendition of 'You Raise Me Up', whilst Scales of the Unexpected provided some more light hearted entertainment with their comedic choreographed versions of the likes of Chesney Hawkes' 'I Am The One and Only'. Even the audience got involved with an enthusiastic cover of 'Movin On Up' that Primal Scream themselves would be impressed by.
As the night drew to a close it was clear how much hard work had gone into it and how much it meant to so many people. There had been tears, laughter and smiles all round but it all ended with an overriding feel good factor, leaving people humming tunes for the rest of the week and most importantly providing a substantial boost to the charity's funds.
Choir director Heather Phillips commented:
"Thank you for the work you put into rehearsing. But most of all thank you for the energy, feeling and spirit you put into the performance... you moved and inspired everyone there"
