London, Thursday 21 April 2016: Farrer & Co has promoted six senior associates to its partnership. The promotions, which span a number of the firm's practice areas, become effective from 1 May 2016.
Doubling the number of promotions which were given in 2015, two of the new partners are employment lawyers, two are in the family team, one from disputes, and one from financial services. Three are women, bringing the total proportion of female partners to 45 per cent.
Four of the new partners started their legal careers at Farrers.
Senior partner, Richard Parry, says: "We are incredibly pleased to have six such highly skilled and dedicated people become partners. As a firm we have worked hard to recruit, develop and retain talented lawyers, and our strategy has paid off. Each of the new partners brings a unique skill set, but all are very much at home at Farrers".
The new partners are:
Nicholas joined the firm's Family team in 2011 after five years' private practice at the Bar. He deals with pre-nuptial agreements and international divorce disputes, particularly involving challenges to the power of the English courts to hear divorce cases.
Kathleen joined as a trainee in 2003. She advises a broad range of institutional, corporate and individual clients on both contentious and non-contentious employment issues. She has dealt with complicated discrimination issues and the impact of changes in anti-age discrimination legislation.
Sarah joined as a trainee in 2005. She works on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious family law matters which include resolving complex financial issues after a marital or relationship breakdown, disputes relating to children, pre and post-nuptial agreements and co-habitation disputes. She trained as a family mediator with the Family Mediators Association.
Michael qualified at Farrers in 2005 and is now a member of the firm's Reputation Management practice. He left Farrers for a year, working in the United States as in-house counsel for a major US corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Michael has considerable experience of advising high profile individuals, corporations and institutions who are the subject of attention and also advises the firm's major media clients on a range of pre and post-publication issues including defamation and privacy.
Andy joined Farrers in 2011 from Clifford Chance. He advises a wide range of financial institutions, including asset managers, private banks and pension providers on non-contentious matters, including regulatory capital issues, collective investment schemes, financial regulatory compliance issues, the Consumer Credit Acts 1974/2006 and transfers of financial services businesses.
Eleanor joined the firm as a trainee in 2003. She is an expert employment lawyer who advises both senior executives and a range of employers, including clients in the financial services sector and law firms. She has an established track record in advising both individuals and employers on complex discrimination and whistleblowing claims in the Employment Tribunal and appellate courts and on restrictive covenants and team moves in the High Court.
The promotions bring the total number of partners in the firm to 74.
