In line with our business values, we are committed to looking at ways our business can improve its sustainability performance. In 2018 we partnered with Planet First, the custodian of the Planet Mark, a sustainability certification delivered in partnership with the Eden Project.
Since partnering with Planet First we have achieved The Planet Mark certification in both May 2019 and May 2020 and we are therefore recognised to be fully committed to reducing our carbon footprint by at least five per cent per annum. We are actively improving our business through the calculation of our carbon footprint, as well as engaging our employees in initiatives to improve sustainability. For our most recent certification year, 1 May 2019 to 30 April 2020, we reduced our total emissions by 18.3 per cent, and we anticipate further reductions in our current year.
The Planet Mark certification provides assurance of:
- Commitment to continuous improvement in environmental, social and economic performance.
- Measuring and reducing our carbon footprint on an annual basis.
- Engaging with our employees on environmental issues and with a global community rainforest project (Cool Earth) that aims to halt deforestation.
Farrer & Co is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and becoming a more sustainable business. Before partnering with Planet Mark in 2018, we were already significantly reducing our energy use by, for example, replacing our old air conditioning system with a new gas refrigerant system and installing Lossnay air systems. Aligning with the Planet Mark certification process has helped us to measure our overall environmental impact in much more detail. We have also committed to reducing our carbon footprint by at least five per cent each year. We have since achieved certification in both May 2019 and May 2020 and for our most recent certification year we reduced our total carbon emissions by 18.3 per cent, and we anticipate further reductions in our current year. We are fully committed to driving forward further changes, actively improving our business through the calculation of our carbon footprint and other environmental impacts, as well as engaging all our staff in initiatives to improve sustainability.
