Richard completed his training contract at Boodle Hatfield before joining Farrer & Co as a newly qualified solicitor in September 2008.


Bristol University; Bristol Institute of Legal Practice.


Richard is a Director and Treasurer of Solicitors for the Elderly, which is an association of lawyers who specialise in advising older clients as well as their families and carers. Richard is also a full member of the Society of Trusts & Estates Practitioners (STEP).

Richard advises on all aspects of trust law, wills, tax and estate planning for UK domiciled individuals and probate matters.  In particular, Richard advises on matters involving mental capacity issues, working to protect vulnerable people who may be affected by mental illness, addiction or dementia - which can often include applications to the Court of Protection. He also advises and has published articles on cross-border incapacity, contentious trust and probate disputes.

Richard recently passed the STEP Advanced Certificate in Advising Vulnerable Clients, and in September 2013 was named one of Private Client Practitioner’s top 35 private client professionals aged under 35.  The Top 35 Under 35 Initiative is designed to identify, recognise, promote and introduce the rising stars of the private client community.
