Jay utilises his experience as an environmental consultant to help clients understand the implications of the legal risks that they face and how these risks can be managed. Jay advises clients on a wide variety of planning and environmental legal issues and this breadth allows him to approach a legal issue from different angles. Jay gives seminars to clients on the latest developments in environmental law and recently gave one on a rare appeal against a contaminated land remediation notice.

Jay is an associate in the Farrer & Co Planning and Environment team.

He helps clients understand and manage their environmental liability on a range of deals. With experience as an environmental consultant, Jay is able to work closely with consultants and put legal safeguards in place to protect clients against environmental risks.

Jay assists developers with negotiating and co-ordinating planning and infrastructure agreements for both small and large development sites.

Jay also acts for clients objecting to planning applications and calls on his experience co-ordinating Environmental Impact Assessments to identify environmental issues with the proposals.

He recently prepared a successful Judicial Review claim for a client which resulted in a planning permission for a neighbouring development being quashed. The claim touched on environmental considerations such as noise impacts.

Jay is pragmatic in negotiating deals for clients, being assertive in protecting clients' interests whilst ensuring that the environmental and planning issues can be agreed quickly between the parties.

Jay enjoys the collaborative approach at Farrer & Co and being able to liaise with clients daily.

Jay qualified as a solicitor in 2016.

  • Jay is a member of the UK Environmental Law Association.

Jay provides pro-bono legal advice at the Mary Ward centre.
