Employment tribunal fees: briefing note

The House of Commons Library has produced a detailed note on the history of the tribunal fees regime and its impact.  It is a slightly dry read but worth a review for anyone interested in looking behind the well-worn headline of declining claims, and the history of the parliamentary debate on fee introduction is interesting.  There is also a very useful précis of the various challenges to the scheme. The position remains that the government has made an in principle commitment to carrying out a ‘comprehensive review’ of the impact of fees – though it has pointedly failed to commit to any specific timeline or format for this review.  One imagines it is not likely to be a pre-election priority.  A link to the note can be found here.
