Simon works for clients who are investing in, acquiring and exiting businesses. Through his supportive and collaborative approach, clients are able to focus on achieving a successful outcome from these business transactions. He seeks to maximise value and manage the risks for his clients while ensuring that any legal issues are resolved with the minimum of delay.
Simon is a partner in the Farrer & Co Corporate team. His focus is on private capital and providing advice to clients on investing and protecting their capital in corporate and alternative asset classes. A significant amount of Simon's work is in the private equity market where he acts for:
- Private and family offices making direct investment or co-investing alongside traditional private equity funds
- Senior executives and management teams on buy-outs and joining private equity backed businesses, and
- International investors.
Prior to joining Farrers, Simon was a senior associate at Mallesons Stephen Jacques (now King & Wood Mallesons) in Sydney. He obtained an in-depth and practical knowledge of the international private equity market, acting for sellers, acquiring funds and management teams on both leveraged and non-leveraged buy outs.
Simon also works with specialists across the firm on clients' private wealth planning (both pre- and post-investment). Clients also call on him to project manage transactions in complex situations, both with a UK and international focus.
In particular, Simon has a strong interest in the inbound work between the US and the UK and travels to the US on a regular basis to meet clients and other professionals to speak on UK private capital and direct investment.
Simon qualified as a solicitor in 2002.
Simon is recognised in the Legal 500 for his private equity work. The 2017 directory says:
"Simon Ward… has ‘a very good eye for detail’, and ‘can be relied on in the most complex, difficult transactions’."
