Martin Blake Lawyer

Martin advises domestic and international lender and borrower clients on all aspects of corporate and individual finance transactions.

Martin has significant experience across a range of financing transactions, including property finance, sports and media finance, fund finance, acquisition finance, high-value secured lending, workouts and restructuring.

He advises corporate and individual lenders, borrowers and sponsors on syndicated, bilateral, secured, unsecured and structured financing transactions, and has experience advising on Sharia-compliant financing. His work spans transactions secured against a wide variety of assets, from land and intellectual property to revenue streams and contractual rights.

Recognised by leading market authorities for his efficiency, responsiveness and pragmatic approach, Martin tailors his advice to each client, finding neat and practical solutions to issues and giving them the confidence to navigate the challenges of a changing political and regulatory landscape. For lender clients, Martin advises on the finance documentation as well as coordinating and project managing every legal aspect of the lending transaction. For borrower clients, Martin’s approach is shaped by the nature of the loan and the client’s familiarity with raising debt finance. His work ranges from providing a high-level review of loan agreements or security documents to advising clients throughout the negotiation and drawdown process.

Lender clients include commercial banks, private banks, debt funds and other alternative lenders. Martin’s borrower clients reflect the firm’s varied client base of corporates, charities, sports organisations, trustees and trust companies, individuals, partnerships, schools and universities.

The property sector makes up a key part of his practice. Martin also advises clients in the sports, media and entertainment sectors on lending matters where the assets forming the collateral for the loan are intangible – often in the form of revenue streams.
