Hair discrimination

93 per cent of black people in the UK have experienced hair discrimination according to a recent survey, and hair touching without consent was reported by almost half who were surveyed.

Katie Fudakowski, Partner in the Safeguarding Unit recently sat down with employment lawyer, actress and voice artist Ayesha Casely-Hayford who created Afro Archives UK, and Laith Dilaimi, Barrister at Old Square Chambers, to discuss hair discrimination. The group discussed Afro Archives UK, a web, video and radio project which explores heritage, image, and the political and social implications of working/performing with Afro textured hair. They also analysed how UK equality legislation applies in the context of hair discrimination.
