Farrer & Co advises the Victoria and Albert Museum on the landmark V&A East Storehouse project
News
Farrer & Co is proud to have supported the Victoria and Albert Museum on the landmark V&A East Storehouse project, which officially opened to the public in May 2025. Our initial involvement on this project started in 2018. Located in the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Storehouse has garnered widespread media attention for its innovative approach to museum access and collection management. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the facility transforms the traditional museum model by offering a dynamic, open-access experience where visitors can engage directly with over 250,000 objects and 1,000 archives. The “Order an Object” service, which allows individuals to request specific items for viewing, exemplifies the Storehouse’s commitment to accessibility and public engagement.
This project is a great example of how cultural assets can be leveraged to support urban placemaking and regeneration. Situated within the former Olympic Media Centre, the V&A East Storehouse plays a central role in the East Bank cultural quarter, contributing to the long-term legacy of the London 2012 Games. V&A East Museum is also part of this cultural quarter, conceived by LLDC, which brings together Sadler’s Wells, UAL and the BBC. It not only enhances the cultural infrastructure of Stratford but also fosters community engagement and creative exploration. Farrer & Co is delighted to have played a role in bringing this visionary initiative to life, which stands as a testament to the power of cultural institutions in shaping vibrant, inclusive urban environments.
Next year, the V&A are scheduled to open V&A East Museum a brand new museum situated within the cultural quarter of the Olympic Park and a project that Farrer & Co also advised on.
The Farrer & Co team was led by Henry Stevens, with support from Mark Gauguier, Rosie Cosby, Sophie Graham, Edward Banyard Smith (Construction) and Karen Phull (Planning).
