Leading law firm Farrer & Co has appointed employment and partnership law expert Anna Birtwistle as a partner.

Anna, who joins from CM Murray, has broad and international employment experience, advising both senior executives and employers, as well as partnership law expertise advising both firms and partners. For example:

  • she steers senior executives through high value negotiated exits, investigations involving sexual harassment claims and regulatory issues, in matters concerning restrictive covenants and team moves and claims for discrimination and whistleblowing
  • she provides day-to-day HR advisory assistance to multinationals, including advising on business reorganisations and redundancies, internal investigations and litigation to protect confidential information and enforce restrictive covenants, as well as defend claims for unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing
  • she advises professional services firms and equity partners on a broad range of partnership law matters including breach of duties, partner investigations and disciplinary matters, expulsion, discrimination and whistleblowing.

Anna has established an international profile and expansive network of international contacts through her active involvement in a number of international bar associations including the International Section of the American Bar Association, in which she co-chairs the International Employment Committee.

Employment partner David Hunt says: “We knew when we met Anna that she would be a perfect addition to the team here. She is a superb lawyer who puts her clients’ needs first, and her presence will strengthen our senior executive practice and our cross-border employer practice.”

Anna says: “Farrers has a stellar reputation advising both individuals and organisations and I am delighted to be joining a team that is known for its excellence in employment and partnership law. I’m excited to be working with David and all the employment team, as well as being able to draw on the expertise of colleagues across the firm where complex employment matters overlap with regulatory, tax and other areas.”
